Representation 9322 on Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers by Ms Linsey Kay

Support / Object: OBJECT
Document Link: Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers - Main Matter 15 - Whether or not the plan would make appropriate provision for gypsy and traveller accommodation over the plan period having regard to the evidence of need and proposed sites?, Issue - Whether or not the proposed sites identified for gypsy and traveller accommodation would be soundly based in terms of their location and site specific impacts, Site GT/06 - Greenway, Wingerworth, Question 25
Representation: Summary by Officer

We feel that if the site was to go ahead in the village it would cause extreme damage to the environment in the area.

Surely the proposed site would cause damage to the natural habitat in the area? Especially with all the new developments and the countryside

The site is in no way in keeping with the area and surroundings in Wingerworth, also we feel that the village is already being stretched enough with all the new housing in relation to local services and utilities supplied to the area.

Concern about access. The site location would create an accident black spot, increasing accident rates along the already congested A61. Traffic will try to overtake traveller vans and caravans pulling into the site, the A61 is a 50mph road that is already extremely congested with future housing developments, such as opposite Bellway development, looking to significantly increase that issue.

We have received information regarding the proposed site for gypsies and travellers at the Greenway site in Wingerworth. Although we have since heard that the proposal has been thrown out we are extremely concerned. As a young family that purchased a property in Wingerworth two years ago based on the fact that my husband was born and bred in the village and the extremely good reputation the village had we are very concerned with this proposal.

As a hard working withstanding family in this village we feel that the proposal to turn the Greenway site into an area for travellers ...redacted... As a village we are currently having no choice other than to embrace 1000's of new houses being built in the area. Whilst not whole heartedly supporting all these extra developments to ...redacted....

We feel that if such a site was to go ahead in the village it would cause extreme damage to the environment in the area. ...redacted...

Being band E council tax payers we are extremely annoyed at the thought that whilst we pay a high band council tax for what feels mostly little in return we are then being told that a traveller site will be produced in our already stretched village which we assume ...redacted...

Surely the proposed site would cause damage to the natural habitat in the area? Especially with all the new developments and the countryside that this effects. ...redacted... We refuse as a hard working family that pays for everything we have and highly contributes to society being higher band income tax payers ...redacted...

A traveller site is in no way in keeping with the area and surroundings in Wingerworth, also we feel that the village is already being stretched enough with all the new housing in relation to local services and utilities supplied to the area. Surely the village and council can not sustain any further developments ...redacted...

Finally and I think our biggest issue is the location of the proposed site. The site is proposed to be accessed off of the A61 (Derby Road). This is ludicrous!! It would certainly create an accident black spot and we feel that accident rates along the already congested A61 would significantly increase. You would create an issue with traffic trying to overtake traveller vans and caravans pulling into the proposed site, furthermore with the A61 being a 50mph road again that is already extremely congested with then future housing developments looking to significantly increase that issue, you are then proposing to add travellers and their trailers to that high speed A road. Not to mention the bend that the proposed site is on again you will encourage overtaking on that bend if you put that traveller site on Greenway, which also happens to be almost directly opposite to the new Bellway development!

This proposal should be scrapped and never proposed again anywhere in Wingerworth. We have more than contributed with all the new housing developments to the governments local housing plan ...redacted...

Please send this feedback onto whoever it may concern and we hope we never have to speak about this proposal again.
