Representation: Summary by Officer.

The proposed site is not suitable as it will disturb a quiet, and safe community.
Concern over impact on crime.

Existing development in surrounding area, Mill Lane, the Avenue and across the road from Greenway.

Traffic already bad due to existing developments, and traveller site will exacerbate this.

Concern over impact on property value.

Gypsy and traveller organisations do not want the site, and prefer extensions to current permanent sites. Other sites available.

The site at Greenway is not large enough to accommodate proposed pitches.

At examination: Written representation

Original submission

I wish to register my complaint and disgust at this proposal for a travellers site at this location.
The proposed site is not suitable as it will disturb a quiet, and safe community.
I work for my local Constabulary and know for a fact that ...redacted...
Currently Greenway is a safe neighbourhood, safe to walk at night and very little ASB issues.
We have had enough disruption to this area with the new build houses down Mill Lane and the Avenue and now currently being built across the road from Greenway. Traffic has increased since the Mill Lane site has gone up and the only exit off the proposed travellers site will be direct onto Derby Road, a road which is already unable to cope with the enhanced traffic.
The proposed site will also decrease peoples property value. ...redacted...
The Gypsy Council in Matlock have responded advising they do NOT consider the site a good choice and would prefer any extension to current permanent sites rather than public ground like Greenway.
Derbyshire Constabulary already struggle to police areas with the resources available and having this site will put even more strain on them ...redacted...
Derbyshire is a massive county, why do local residents need this proposed site at Greenway, when there are plenty of open spaces in Derbyshire away from local communities redacted...
Travellers also have numerous vehicles to each family, dogs etc . The site at Greenway is not large enough to accommodate all that comes with this sort of re-location/site.
...redacted...
It really is unbelievable that this is even being considered. It is short sighted & ill advised.
I have been in touch with BBC Look and reported this proposal to them and they were very keen to attend and were due to contact NEDDC for their side of the story , however on hearing that Councillor Stephen Peters announced the council had withdrawn the site they decided not to attend.
Even though this has been withdrawn at Council level, until the local Inspector rules it out , then their is still a possibility of it being considered, hence why residents are still registering their complaints.
I would like confirmation after the Consultation , which ends on 15/2/19 as to whether this has actually been withdrawn in full permanently.
