Representation 9631 on Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers by Wingerworth Parish Council (Charlotte Taylor)

Support / Object: OBJECT
Document Link: Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers - Main Matter 15 - Whether or not the plan would make appropriate provision for gypsy and traveller accommodation over the plan period having regard to the evidence of need and proposed sites?, Issue - Whether or not the proposed sites identified for gypsy and traveller accommodation would be soundly based in terms of their location and site specific impacts, Site GT/06 - Greenway, Wingerworth, Question 25
Representation: The use of this site as a traveller site would have a significant adverse impact on the landscape. The proposed site is used by local residents as a green space and has a public footpath running through the site.

Vehicular access to the site from the A61 would be challenging, both in terms of the access from the highway and the volume of traffic already on the road. In addition to this a new development is in progress opposite the proposed site and the entrance would be almost directly opposite the entrance to the development. The Council do not feel that this would offer either suitable or safe access to either vehicles or pedestrians.

The proposed location could also impact the health and well-being of anyone using the site due to the noise and air pollution generated from being adjacent to a major trunk road.
At examination: Written representation

Original submission

I am the Clerk for Wingerworth Parish Council and am submitting an objection to the Local Plan proposed gypsy and traveller site at Greenway, Wingerworth (GT/06) on behalf of the Parish Council.

The Council is responding to Local Plan Main Matter 15, questions 24 and 25:

The location of the site is not sustainable, there is not the infrastructure in Wingerworth to support the proposed site, particularly on this side of the A61. The nearest facilities are all on the other side of the A61, including shops, schools and doctors. However both schools and the local doctors surgery are already struggling to cope with existing capacity, so this would place further pressure on services.

The use of this site as a traveller site would have a significant adverse impact on the landscape.
