Representation 9632 on Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers by Miss Sarah Hardy

Support / Object: OBJECT
Document Link: Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers - Main Matter 15 - Whether or not the plan would make appropriate provision for gypsy and traveller accommodation over the plan period having regard to the evidence of need and proposed sites?, Issue - Whether or not the proposed sites identified for gypsy and traveller accommodation would be soundly based in terms of their location and site specific impacts, Site GT/06 - Greenway, Wingerworth, Question 25
Representation: Summary by Officer.

Access off Derby Road A61, the road is congested and with additional access to the new Bellway site, it would be dangerous to have this site.

The site is small and only allow a small number of caravans to be sited here. There would be no room to expand, the site will be quickly filled.

The site is in a built up area in the middle of a housing estate. The other proposed sites are more rural and do not directly affect as many residents.

This is an invasion of privacy for the number of houses that are directly affected by the site being at the end of their garden.

The site is used as a recreational ground and as a cut through to Derby Road. It is my understanding that there is a legal covenant stating the site can only be used for children of the local estate.

I write to voice my concern regarding the proposed Traveller site off Greenway at Wingerworth.

My main concerns are as follows:

Access off Derby Road A61. This road is already congested and with the additional access to Curzon Park the new Bellway site I feel it would be dangerous to have vans, caravans etc in and out of this site.

The site is very small so would only allow a small number of caravans to be sited here. There would be no room to expand and the site will be quickly out grown.

The site at Wingerworth is in a built up area in the middle of a housing estate. This seem particularly odd as the other proposed sites are more rural and do not directly affect as many residents.

...redacted... This is an invasion of privacy for the number of houses that are directly affected by the site being at the end of their garden. This would be stressful for local residents especially the elderly or vulnerable.

The children's play park is only a few hundred yards away ...redacted...

The site is used by local children as a recreational ground and is used as a cut through to Derby Road. It is my understanding that there is a legal covenant stating the site can only be used for children of the local estate.

I hope that the council will withdraw the application and find a more suitable site for Travellers to reside.
