Representations on Examination Consultation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers - Question 3

Representation ID: 9725

OBJECT Mr Paul Gibbons

Summary:

Summary by Officer

I don't see how these GTAA's can predict anything with any accuracy. It would be better to make sites available for use when needed.

At one time there were "New Age Travellers" who were not Romanies but took to travelling. This seems to have died out probably due to official action as well as reduced unemployment. Thus there could be some 'suppressed demand' for traveller sites.

It is impossible to prove need. No-one will ever know what the five year demand is so that a five year supply cannot be calculated. Statistically, the numbers are too small.

SUPPORT Derbyshire County Council (Mr Steven Buffery)

Summary:

Summary by Officer

For North East Derbyshire District, based on the 15 stage assessment methodology, the GTAA recommends that there is an overall requirement for a total of 15 additional Gypsy and Traveller pitches over the period 2014 to 2034, together with 7 additional bricks and mortar units. The assessment indicates a need for 6 Traveller pitches to be provided in the period 2014 - 2019 and 9 additional pitches to be provided thereafter over the period 2019 - 2034.

OBJECT Mrs Glynis McLaughlin

Summary:

From the Addendum to Gypsy and Traveller Topic Paper it appears that the identified site are for permanent use, no transit sites or emergency stop over sites have been identified for the next 5 years.
In Calow we have over the last few years had G and T set up camp on the local cricket pitch, ...redacted....
As far as I am aware Chesterfield Borough Council have a transit site adjoining an established site , but it is always full.
